The St Andrew’s En Route store is a perfect example of local companies working together.
The Channel Islands Co-operative Society purchased the 3,000sq.ft retail part of the St Andrew’s garage site near Bailiff’s Cross and appointed RG Falla as the main contractor. Given the complexity of the work, RG Falla in turn worked with a number of local sub-contractors to complete the three month project on time and on budget.
‘RG Falla is proud of its Guernsey roots and has been involved in some of the island’s most iconic developments. We have worked with Channel Islands Co-operative Society before and they share our local history and our local pride. The work required to fit out the store was extremely varied but in keeping with the local theme, we used reliable and experienced Guernsey sub-contractors who we have used previously to create a much-needed facility for the St Andrew’s community,’ said project manager Graham Dawe.
The structure itself had already been completed and so the work required was to fit out the store and install a mezzanine floor within the warehouse area.
The fit out included a number of unusual features including large formica feature panels, which were suspended from the roof, and electrics and refrigeration suspended in the ceiling void.
‘Much of the work was at high levels which required internal scaffolding and that was slightly unusual,’ said Mr Dawe.
The tight time schedule also meant that RG Falla and its sub-contractors had to work alongside specialist companies installing the refrigeration, IT, security systems and petrol pumps.
‘We did have to ensure that we all worked together to meet the finish date but RG Falla has an excellent relationship with its subcontractors and so we were able to complete the project and allow the Co-op to open on time. It’s a lovely store and I am sure it will be well used,’ said Mr Dawe.
