THE Guernsey Hockey Club’s Outreach Programme, which introduces the sport to year five children, has a new sponsor.
RG Falla has signed a three year sponsorship agreement to secure the future of the programme, which has now been running for seven years and has given hundreds of children the opportunity to play the sport.
‘This is fantastic news for the future of hockey in Guernsey. RG Falla is a long-standing Guernsey firm which is well known for its support of sport and I am delighted that they are now the sponsor of the RG Falla Outreach Programme,’ said junior hockey director Andrew Lindsay.
‘It’s so important to introduce sport at a young age as they are enthusiastic to learn and means that they can develop a real passion which will see them climb through the ranks. Each year the programme reaches 500 children who otherwise might never have the chance to try hockey.’
The RG Falla Outreach Programme involves qualified coaches from Guernsey Hockey LBG going into junior schools over the school year to introduce the sport and culminates in a fun tournament where the schools compete against each other and the children can put what they have learnt into action. The 2010/2011 champions were Sark in what was their first competition.
‘The Guernsey Hockey Club coaches are obviously very passionate about the sport and the Outreach Programme and that has to be beneficial to the health and fitness of our younger generations. We’re delighted that we can support them in their endeavours and look forward to seeing this year’s students showing us how much they have learnt at next summer’s tournament,’ said RG Falla commercial director Graham Brook.
