RG Falla Quarter Marathon celebrates 10th Anniversary

This year’s RG Falla Quarter Marathon will celebrate its 10th anniversary and raise money for a new local charity.
Historically the annual charity has raised funds for a national charity but last year RG Falla chose a local charity as the beneficiary and has continued that theme this year by naming Les Bourgs Hospice.

‘As a Guernsey company which has been part of the local community for over 50 years, we have agreed that we will now choose a different local charity each year as the beneficiary of the RG Falla Quarter Marathon,’ said RG Falla managing director Peter Gregory.
‘There is no doubt that Les Bourgs Hospice is a charity which is loved by the whole community and this year it is particularly appropriate that they have been chosen as RG Falla is the main contractor of the new Les Bourgs Hospice. We have worked closely with the whole Les Bourgs team and their enthusiasm and devotion is unquestionable and we are determined to do what we can to contribute towards the costs needed to make this much needed facility a reality.
The run on Sunday 22nd May, which starts at Vazon and goes to L’Eree and back again, is open to both individual runners and teams. Team entries need to include four or more runners and the team’s time will be calculated using the fastest four runners in each team. Prizes will be presented to the fastest adult team and the fastest under 16 team and all runners will be entered into a prize draw.
‘The RG Falla Quarter Marathon is always a very popular event and we hope that this year will see a record number of teams taking part as a way of celebrating the event’s 10th birthday and to raise more money than ever before. RG Falla’s parent company, the Garenne Group, will once again be entering teams and we hope that there will be lots of teams for them to compete against,’ said Mr Gregory'Les Bourgs director of nursing Jo Boyd said the support of the RG Falla Quarter Marathon would be invaluable to the charity as it tries to
raise £4m. to fund the construction and fit-out of a purpose-built hospice. The new facilities will include seven ground-floor single ensuite bedrooms, a lounge for family gatherings and a new day hospice. There will also be an outpatient consulting room, central nurses’ station and office which will be open five days a week, a chapel and landscaped gardens.
‘We are delighted that RG Falla has chosen Les Bourgs Hospice as the main beneficiary of this very popular event. Les Bourgs Hospice receives no formal funding and so relies totally on donations from islanders and fundraising events like this make an enormous difference to our efforts to provide the island with a much-needed hospice facility,’ she said.Teams need to pre-register before 19th May and individuals can register in advance or between 9.30am and 10am on the day.

Entry forms can be downloaded from www.rgfalla.gg and more information is available by calling RG Falla on 256585, by emailing quarter.marathon@rgfalla.gg
