A great turnout despite the rain was how organisers Paul Salazar, James Travers and David Stuart from R G Falla described this year's Quarter Marathon which took place on Sunday 20th May.
It was the eleventh time RG Falla sponsored the annual event and it was in aid of Help a Guernsey Child. The charity puts all money raised towards deserving children and young people's projects in the Bailiwick. The race began at Vazon and runners followed the course, which was just over six miles altogether to L'Eree before heading back to the start line by Crabby Jacks.
One of the three organisers from R G Falla, Paul Salazar, said that supporting local charities was something the company felt was very important. "Last year we raised £4,500 for Les Bourgs Hospice. It has been a great turnout of people despite the weather.'
The fastest male was Ben Wilen, who completed the marathon in 39-26 with Martine Le Page being the fastest female, completing it in 46.08. The fastet team was Geomarine which was made up of four runners and they completed it in 2-47-20s. Geomarine also won the Garenne Group inter-company trophy. The junior team was won by Guernsey Junior Boxers.
