Office Refurbishment at Islands Insurance

Refurbishing offices is one of RG Falla’s core capabilities as they have completed a number of them throughout Guernsey over the 50+ years they have been in business.  However, the Islands Insurance project still presented some unique challenges.

The most significant was undertaking a complete refurbishment without impacting on the day-to-day running of this very busy company and another was the unusual location of the office being in Forest Lane – a narrow pedestrianised lane, on a sharp incline and in the centre of St Peter Port.

Working closely with the Island Insurance management team, a 33-week schedule of works was put together which included refurbishing the offices, washrooms and creating a new boardroom and staff room.

All three floors were stripped back to their concrete shell before new suspended ceilings, doors and partitions were fitted and the floors and walls were given new finishes. New heating, cooling and ventilation systems were installed and the electrics upgraded. All of the shower and washroom facilities had new sanitary ware fitted and were retiled. The only things in the whole building which weren’t changed were the windows.

RG Falla allowed 11 weeks to complete each of the three floors and co-ordinated the removal of office furniture to other areas of the building to allow the works to happen and then once each floor had been completed, arranged for the furniture to be replaced.

The complexity of the location meant RG Falla had to carefully co-ordinate the delivery of materials to ensure that they had minimal impact on the business and on people using Forest Lane.  This was successful through co-ordinated communication with all those concerned.

The project was completed on time and on budget and the result is a modern office environment, which meets the needs of Islands Insurance, its customers and its staff. The staff now also benefit from a very different staff room where they can relax.
